I had asthma growing up, and I remember being prescribed codeine cough syrup as a child. I can remember being as young as 14 or 15, drinking codeine cough syrup because it made me feel really good. Then I started abusing it. I would switch it out for other cough syrups over the counter. That’s where it all began.
As I got older, I got into painkillers. At times it got really bad. I eventually got sober before my daughter was born, and I was sober then for the longest I can remember—for 2 years. Then next thing you know, I was using painkillers again. And where I live, heroin is everywhere. So I tried that, and I liked it.
I’ve been in and out of lots of rehab programs, mostly outpatient. Then I found a methadone clinic near my house that I established care with, in order to get sober. And I also tried Subutex and Suboxone. At one point, my clinic stopped prescribing my Suboxone, and I started using again. I finally re-enrolled in the MAT clinic, eventually qualified for the transition program, which made it easier not having to go to the clinic every morning. But I still had to go twice per month in the mornings, which started affecting my job because I’d be late to work.
Then I got home from work one day, looked online for Suboxone in my city, and I found Bicycle Health. I called and talked to someone… it was so easy.
Everyone at Bicycle Health is really super nice and polite, and they really seem to care. I’m not used to being treated so nicely. I’ve been a drug addict and intermittently on maintenance meds for most of my life, and people look down on you. Now with Bicycle Health and Suboxone, I live a normal life. I’m happy, have a good relationship with my daughter, go to work, and pay my bills.
Being on Suboxone is life-changing. When my daughter was young, I was using heroin and prescription painkillers. Things were really bad. But since I’ve been on Suboxone, things are literally great. I don’t think about using opioids. I have no urge to use. Suboxone makes me feel normal. I feel stable in every way.
