Can I Take Suboxone Through Airport Security?

Yes, you can take your Suboxone with you while you travel via airplane, at least domestically within the US. But you should take a few precautions to ensure you don't experience delays or hassles.

In general, it's best to bring your prescription inside your carry-on luggage. Every item will move through a scanner, and you'll only get stopped if the officials have questions.

Pack properly, and you'll be through the checkpoints and on your way to your destination in no time. 

Traveling Domestically with Suboxone 

If you have a legal prescription for Suboxone, you are entitled by law to be able to bring that prescription medication with you while traveling domestically. You're not required to tell TSA screening officials about your Suboxone pills and strips. [1]

Traveling Internationally With Suboxone 

While traveling with Suboxone is legal within the United States, it may not be in other countries. You can take your Suboxone doses overseas, but extra preparation might be required. Some countries ban narcotic substances including suboxone [3] Check with the foreign embassy of your destination country before you travel to ask about rules and regulations in that country.[4] 

Tips for Traveling With Suboxone

Here's how to pack properly for your trip:

• Put pills in your carry-on luggage. Suboxone should go in your checked and carry-on bags.[1] It's best to keep your doses with you. If your luggage goes missing, which unfortunately does happen, you still have the medication you need. In addition, Suboxone needs to be stored in a cool, dry place, so it is better not to put it into checked luggage.
  
  
• Use prescription bottles. TSA doesn't require labeled bottles, but some states do.[1] It's best to skip the hassle and keep your medications in their original containers that are labeled with the medication name and your name so there is no doubt that the prescription belongs to you.
  
  
• Pack enough. Take medications you’ll need for your trip, along with a few spare days in case your trip ever gets delayed.[2] This may involve planning ahead. Suboxone is usually dispensed monthly, so if you know you are going to be away for longer than a month, talk to your doctor well in advance of your trip to ensure you have enough supply.

To reiterate, Suboxone is legal to take with you when you travel, but by paying attention to your preparation, you’ll reduce the risk of any hassles while traveling.
