As someone who studied English in college, I've always been interested in personal narratives. What I love most about medicine is the privilege of learning about other people's lives. Coming from a family of Vietnamese refugees, I know that culture and life experience can differ so much among people who live in the same community. I feel incredibly lucky to meet patients from diverse backgrounds, from whom I can learn, and develop long term relationships with them. I completed my internal medicine primary care residency at UCSF in a program focused on underserved populations. Here I saw how often substance use and mental health disorders affect a person's well being, and I became invested in focusing on addiction medicine. I will be starting as a Clinical Pod Lead for the West Region in April 2024, and excited to be part of a team focused on this care.
